Historical data shows healers in the Amazon use copaiba for many types of pain and inflammation as well as external skin disorders.  In Peruvian traditional medicine,  a couple of drops of resin are mixed with a spoonful of honey and taken as a natural sore throat remedy. It is also used in these cultures as anti-inflammatory and antiseptic especially for cleansing the respiratory tract.  Some individuals may have relief from joint pain if the oil is applied directly to joints.  Copaiba is certified safe as a food additive by the FDA.
