Lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida) comes from the Lamiaceae or Labiatae (mint) family. It is steam distilled from the flower top. Lavandin is a hybrid plant developed by crossing true lavender with spike lavender or aspic (Lavandula latifolia). It has been used to sterilize animal cages in veterinary clinics and hospitals throughout Europe. It is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Lavandin is a stronger antiseptic than Lavandula Officinialis, and is beneficial to respiratory and circulatory conditions. It has similar effects as lavender, however it has higher levels of camphor (5-12%) and should NOT BE USED ON BURNS! The high camphor levels will actually make a burn worse. Use therapeutic grade lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) instead.
