Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuousus) essential oil is from the Poaceae botanical family of grasses. It is steam distilled from the leaves of the plant. Lemongrass is typically used for purification and digestion. It is a powerful anti-fungal when applied topically. It also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties. It regenerates connective tissues and ligaments, dilates blood vessels, improves circulation and promotes lymph flow.
Lemongrass may be helpful in particular to combating candida fungal infections. (Lemongrass may balance female hormones, therefore should not be used by anyone with estrogen sensitive cancers.) One of my kids developed a round rough skin patch that slowly increased to the size of a dime. After consulting with our pediatrician he determined it was a fungus from a skin sample. I alternated topical applications with diluted lemongrass and Melaleuca Alternifolia (1 drop essential oil to 4 drops aloe vera gel – I use the Aubrey brand which has no artificial colors or preservatives). After just a day and a half it was almost gone.
Lemongrass is found in Young Living’s Purification blend.
